Water-shedding’ and the possibility of a Day ZERO in Gauteng

South Africa is ranked as the 30th driest country in the world and our water sources are over exploited and we are using more water than nature can replace.

The global average water use per person per day is 173 liters with the average South African consuming 237 liters of water per day.

WHERE-IS-THE-WATER-IN-THE-WORLD

OUR WATER IS A COMPANY OBSESSED TO SAVE WATER BY CONNECTING AND EMPOWERING PEOPLE

The Integrated Vaal River System supports 50% of South Africa’s GDP and is the main source of water for Gauteng with a fixed maximum yearly yield.

Projections are that we will outstrip our supply with 20% by 2025.

There is, however, good news. Failing infrastructure and non-revenue water accounts for 37% of freshwater consumption. This is alarming, but it also means that we have enough water available if we look after our resource.

A fundamental change in the way we view water is needed and we do this through training..

According to studies*, between 30-40% of fresh drinking water is lost before it reaches the end user due to leaking infrastructure. A further 30-40% is lost as non-revenue water.
To put this in a more positive light, this means that we have enough water available to us if we start managing our recourses in a more sustainable way.

OUR Approach: Measure…Optimize…Save!

Taking manual readings twice a day is a fantastic start, but this is the equivalent of receiving a wrapped present. By installing monitoring equipment, you open that present.

The AMR logger takes a reading every hour and creates a flow profile that can be remotely monitored. Working with personnel on site to interpret the flow profiles we can determine how much and where the water is being used, which leads us to our second step…OPTIMISATION

From the data collected we will be able to detect leaks, optimize irrigation times and optimize normal use with efficiency devices.

Optimizing and lowering your overall water consumption has a direct and measurable impact on all the aspects of the triple bottom line people, planet profit.”
